With the growing awareness circling around sustainability, NPH has also decided to start using some of these concepts. Each of our homes is built to house a minimum of 16 children and two caregivers. The cost of heating water is very high.
Solar water heaters generally reduce electricity use by 85%, but can be as effective as 90%. In the past, we spent about $6,000 annually on electricity which was primarily for heating water. If we assume that the solar system will save us between 50% and 80% on our costs related to heating water, we can expect to pay back the investment in three to five years. We need solar water heaters for our two new houses. We have already installed solar water heaters in our other six houses.
The selected company will provide the complete system including installation at a cost of $2,558 per home. This will include a 500 liter thermal tank, three solar collectors, an electrical support system, and a five year guarantee. Our current solar water heaters are able to provide hot water 24 hours a day.
We expect to finish the first of the two new houses as early as May 2012, and would love to have the panels in place as soon as possible. The second home should be completed around the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013.
Your support in our efforts to strive towards sustainable, environmental, and economic solutions would be exceptional.
