Preschool and Eighth Grade Graduation
Starting off the summer season with graduation
June 21, 2012 - Dominican Republic
The end of the school year brings overwhelming excitement for the children. For many, it marks the beginning of summer vacation, and for several, it is the culmination of a pivotal point in their education as they celebrate their graduation. We just recently had a full day celebration for our children who graduated from preschool and eighth grade. The children, volunteers, caregivers and staff could not be prouder of our graduates!
The children took their final exams in mid-June and the preparation of the festivities began soon after. On the Saturday following exams, our multipurpose center was decorated with handmade decorations of graduation caps, flowers and photos of the graduates. The hard work and dedication of our volunteers, teachers and staff was very obvious in how amazing the room looked.

The graduates, tall and small, processed in front of the crowd with proud smiles on their faces. During the ceremony, each received different certificates and performed several songs and dances for the audience. It was a beautiful morning and the graduates are very pleased with their accomplishments.
The night following the graduation ceremonies, the volunteers planned a party for the eighth grade graduates and older children from the home. A hip-hop dance group from Santo Domingo performed for the children and they loved it. Hot dogs and sodas were served for dinner and afterwards, volunteers announced the misses and misters of the eighth grade class. Each graduate was named a various title including, Mr. Best Smile, Miss Talented, or one of many other titles. Finally, the volunteers performed a surprise dance they had prepared for the party, and the crowd went crazy with cheers and applauses.
Our eighth graders are currently in the process of taking their national exams in order to officially move on to their high school courses. We are very proud of their accomplishments, and we are excited to see what this next year brings them!
