An Exciting End to Senior Year
It is an exciting time for our soon-to-be high school graduates.

The end of the school year is a very exciting time for our soon-to-be high school graduates. They have been working very hard and have the seen the results!
For their end-of-the-year project, all of our senior students worked in teams to develop ideas for businesses as part of a competition. Six groups were chosen to market and create their business ideas into small businesses for the end-of-the-year micro-business exhibition. It was really neat to see their ideas and how they developed their businesses.
One of our students keeps busy as a barista.
The exposition featured a graphic design company, two cafés, a bar (serving non-alcoholic drinks, of course), a salsa company, a bakery, and a restaurant. Our students had to create blueprints of the space, plan for all aspects in creating a business, and they created logos. Some students even created uniforms, and the cafés made cups just like one would see at a Starbucks. The graphic design company made their own promotional products and website. The students at the café whipped up a variety of hot and frozen drinks. The salsa company had delicious tamarind, peanut, and guajillo salsas available for purchase, and the restaurant featured mushroom soup, rice, and tamales. It was really neat to see our young adults visualize and create their own businesses which could easily compete in the economy.
The end of the year also has been an important time for our young adults who are 18 or older as many of them voted for the first time in the Mexican presidential elections. The polling station was conveniently located directly outside of our high school home, so our young adults did not have to go far to vote. It was a great experience for our young adults to begin to participate in their country’s politics and be mindful of civic affairs.
With school projects completed, expositions presented, and most important senior theses written and turned in, everyone’s thoughts have turned to graduation! Thanks to a generous donation from Leo and Mary Lou Hundt, we took our soon-to-be graduates to Mexico City to purchase formal attire for their graduation celebration this weekend. We divided up the graduates into groups and spent the day making sure everyone found the dress that fits, the shoes that match, the sharp suit, and the right colored dress shirt. Our soon-to-be graduates were so excited to be able to have something new and special to wear to celebrate their big day. Although the attire is for their graduation, the suits are also a great investment in our young adult’s wardrobe for future formal and professional events.
There are only a few days left until we celebrate our graduates, the anticipation and excitement is in the air, and we are looking forward to a great weekend!
