NPH Mexico's high school holds an inauguration event for the new "Paralibros" reading unit. February 1, 2012 - Mexico
In January, NPH Mexico held a special event for the inauguration of a new reading unit in the courtyard of our high school. The Paralibros unit is actually a small bus stop with a roof, a bench and books, and serves as a “reading stop” for our high school students. With the support from the Morelos Culture Institute, the Paralibros unit was installed to foster the love of reading within each of our students and to promote a community rich in literary culture.
The high school director, Luis López, along with representatives from the Department of Written Culture, cut the ribbon to celebrate the installment of the Paralibros reading unit.
At the inauguration, our high school staff and students were honored with the presence of representatives from the Department of Written Culture. The event also featured a very special guest, Elia Crotte, who captured the audience with her animated story telling and musical performances. She transported everyone to a world of fantasy when she retold stories by Columbian writer Triunfo Arciniegas about talking frogs and a lovesick woman’s encounter with the Grim Reaper. Our children left the event inspired and excited to submerge themselves in the magical world of books.
The Paralibros reading unit was made possible by Gerardo de la Macorra, a generous supporter of NPH Mexico and an active godparent. Gerardo de la Macorra is dedicated to promoting the love of reading in our children and has worked toward this goal by remodeling NPH Mexico’s libraries and donating hundreds of books to our homes. With fully equipped libraries and the new Paralibros unit at our high school, we can proudly say that NPH Mexico’s children grow and learn in an environment that fosters curiosity, a love for literature and creative expression.
