Lent and Semana Santa at Casa Padre Wasson
Celebrations and events organized in preparation for Easter at NPH Nicaragua
April 10, 2012 - Nicaragua
Lent is one of the most important periods in the Christian religious life. The 40 days preceding the death and resurrection of Christ are often seen as one of the most profound periods of the Christian experience.
In preparation for Easter, NPH has been very active in participating in activities and events related to the Christian tradition. For all the Fridays of Lent, Casa Padre Wasson organized Stations of the Cross celebrations at the home. The simulation of the walking path of Jesus during the day of his death is one of the most touching Christian experiences.
The Stations of the Cross on Good Friday
Exactly one week before Easter, Casa Padre Wasson celebrated Palm Sunday, a procession which commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus in Jerusalem.
Semana Santa (Holy Week) was a week full of events. Beyond the daily masses, Maundy Thursday was celebrated with the Washing of Feet rite done by Padre Alberto, reenactment of the washing of the feet of the 12 Apostles done by Jesus.
On Friday, commemorating the death of Jesus, we had a special version of the Stations of the Cross with pequeños impersonating the most important characters of the Passion of Christ. Another important event on Friday was the Adoration of the Cross.
Saturday evening was very special for the home with a baptism and a party with Piñatas to celebrate Easter Eve. And finally, Easter Day was an occasion to party together, searching for eggs hidden in the fields by the volunteers and the Tios with precious surprises for the winners.
In short, it was certainly a period full of events and opportunities to reflect on life, death and resurrection of the Messiah as well as an opportunity to celebrate all together this important festivity.
