Art Therapist - currently vacant - 1 job for 13 months in NPH Dominican. Urgent!
This volunteer will work in the school and give individual as well as group therapy. The volunteer must speak Spanish, be creative, flexible, self-disciplined and have the ability to improvise. Beside the therapies, we will ask the volunteer to help out with presentations of the school and the house. We prefer an art therapist who has experience with theater and experience working with children with learning and behavioral disabilities.
To be considered for this position you must have one of the following:
• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Art Therapy.
• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Drama Therapy/Psychodrama
• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Psychology with knowledge of the techniques of play and art therapy.
The role of the art therapist is to identify and provide therapy for children with psychological problems and handicaps. The therapist works individually and in groups with children and teenagers.
Therapy is based on several techniques stemming from psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, physiology, etc.
The art therapist uses the characteristics and possibilities of art as a way to communicate and express thoughts and feelings. Art therapy is not like art class, where the result is an art project. The art therapist helps children to recognize, guide, survive, reduce or accept emotional, social, cognitive and psychomotorical problems.
