León, Nicaragua: Land of lakes and volcanoes, home to brave and talented individuals. Among them is an exceptional young woman, Ms. León, also known as Esther Ruiz, who is currently participating in a prestigious beauty pageant in Nicaragua: Miss Grand NICARAGUA. Her journey to this point in her life has been an extraordinary, filled with determination and overcoming challenges.

NPH played a fundamental in Esther’s early life in her first few months. NPH welcomed her into Casa Padre Wasson when she was just two months old. The tragic loss of her father plunged her mother into economic difficulties, leading her family to live in precarious conditions and constantly seek refuge. However, they found a safe and loving home at NPH where they could rebuild their lives.

A Challenging Background

Esther was born in Nicaragua, a land of natural beauty and rich culture. She says, “I don’t have any memories of my life before NPH, but my mom tells me that my father died just just hours before I was born. Unfortunately, my mother had no income and it plunged us into economic hardships. We were pretty much homeless.”

Currently, Esther is participating in a prestigious beauty pageant in Nicaragua. Her participation is not only an opportunity to showcase her beauty, but also to share her inspiring story and be a role model for other young people. “I want to convey a message of empowerment and personal growth, demonstrating that no matter what our past may be, we can forge a bright future. Not just for children and families in NPH, but all people in situations of vulnerability.”

A Moment of Reflection

Esther, with a determined gaze, reflects on her life filled with challenges and achievements. From her beginnings in Nicaragua, she found a safe and loving home at NPH that gave her the opportunity to rebuild her life. Through her passion for folk dance, she discovered a way to connect with her roots and transmit the history and cultural identity of her country.

“I am proud of myself because once again I am fighting for what I love and yearn for. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions. There is no greater pride than representing the nation that raised me, showcasing my roots to the world, and proudly waving my flag,” says Esther the contestant.

Esther Ruiz is a living example of how the love, care, and support of organizations like NPH can transform lives. Her story reminds us of the importance of providing opportunities to those who need them most, enabling them to develop their full potential and become positive leaders in their communities.
