The Government of Nicaragua has introduced social programs that are designed to combat poverty and increase education rates in the country. The Ministry of Family Affairs tries to enable poor families to send their children to school, keep families together, minimize risks of child abuse linked to migrations and protect children from becoming vulnerable to abuses. Education demonstrably empowers children, reduces risk for early mariage, pregnancies, abuses and exploitation and strengthens a child's resilience.
The Initiative bounds Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to join the efforts and provide additional support for local children. NPH should not isolate itself and only care about children who qualify for permanent admission to our village, but provide children in need within the surrounding communities with food, clothing and education.
The Nicaraguan Child Welfare Agency conducted an assessment of our premises. Considering our quality standards, our situation and possibilities as an international NGO, the Ministry of Family expects NPH Nicaragua to commit to the community and to fully comply with the initiative. Beyond this legal obligation, NPH would be happy to welcome and support the impoverished children that are living in close proximity to the home. But it also includes challenges - the population of the children we have to provide for can vary, sometimes by Ministerial decree from one day to another. This makes accurate long term planning for the linked expenses nearly impossible.
Currently, NPH is supporting around 80 children from the surrounding communities. They are provided with school uniforms, picked up every morning with NPH busses, brought into our village in order to visit the school, eat together with the internal children, join activities after school or mass and then depart in the afternoon to join their families. Recreational activities and celebrations at the home are equally open to the external children, they are included as a part of the NPH family.
Please, help us to contribute and help the community children living close to NPH Nicaragua. This will be a joint effort between NPH Nicaragua and the governmental agencies that oversee specific functions.
