NPH El Salvador is a home for 251 abandoned, orphaned, and disadvantaged children which has been open since 1999. Good nutrition is important to keep our children healthy and happy. Some of our children come from difficult pasts and most of them did not get adequate food before coming to our home, which is why it is even more important for us to provide them with delicious and nutritious meals.
There are four cooks who work in our kitchen. There are also four of our young people in their year of service who help make tortillas, clean the kitchen, and serve the food, among other activities. This is a great help for the cooks in charge and also a great learning experience for our kids.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so our cooks get up early in order to prepare breakfast. A typical breakfast at our home includes eggs, beans, cheese, bread, and a glass of milk. For lunch, the menu our cooks prepare includes different dishes that are part of a balanced diet provided by a specialist. A balanced dish that is served during lunch time in our home includes rice, chicken or meat, tortillas, and salad. Throughout the day, our children also receive fruit as a snack. For dinner we eat beans, fried plantain (bananas), bread, and a cup of milk.
Even though we produce our own milk and corn, there are many other kinds of foods we need in order to provide our children with the necessary food they need to grow up healthy. By supporting this project, you will be helping us to continue providing our kids with a adequate diet.
