"God Gives Me The Strength to Keep Going"

Luz Milagros shares her faith in God.
April 2, 2018 - Peru

"God will always protect me."

Luz Milagros is 20 years old. After experiencing some issues in her family life, she joined NPH Peru in 2015, and she now lives here with her two younger brothers Marco* and Marcos.*

In January of 2018, Peru received the visit of Pope Francis. Luz Milagros, together with eight of our youths, attended the mass he celebrated at Las Palmas Air Base, in the capital city of Lima. She shares her experience:

"It was a different kind of Sunday. Although it was very hot and I could not see him close up, when he arrived, I remember people started cheering, and I felt great joy in my heart. During the mass, we all sang and listened to him very attentively. I felt something special."

Luz Milagros believes in God, and her faith is very strong because, "He helps us from Heaven in our times of need. My faith in God is what keeps me going and believing that He will always protect me when I have problems."

As is customary at NPH Peru, every Sunday, Luz and the other children go to mass in the parish of our community. She tells us that her favorite part of the Mass is when "we extend the sign of peace, when we pray and sing. I really love to sing Glory to the Lord."

She also recalls that Holy Week at NPH Peru is an important event in which many activities are carried out. "Caregivers, volunteers, and children, all of us together decorate our home. We make a special lunch or dinner, and on Good Friday we recreate "the Stations of the Cross." With a lot of creativity, we make our own costumes to perform characters like Mary or Jesus, and the others make the floral carpets. It is our tradition." For her, this celebration means "listening to God's Word to reflect."

For Luz Milagros, it is important to have faith and believe in God. "Every night, I pray to God and I ask him to take care of my family, my brothers, the little ones, and give me the strength to keep going."
