Rafael Arce: National Director of NPH Peru

Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos is pleased to announce Hermano Mayor Rafael (Rafa) Arce as the new NPH Peru National Director effective Monday, 28 October 2019. He succeeds Rosario Chirinos, Acting National Director who will transition to the role of Coordinator of Family Services and Head of Psychology. Former Co-National Director Tula Cruces transitioned to the role of Administrative Assistant and completed her service with NPH Peru earlier this month.

National Director is an important leadership position within our organization. The breadth and depth of the responsibilities of this role put it at the center of many operational, support, and fundraising functions. The men and women who serve as country leaders across Latin American and the Caribbean make up a special group. Rafael officially joined their ranks earlier this week.

In his new role, Rafael will provide strategic and operational leadership for the NPH Peru family, while supporting the care of all children and youth in accordance with NPH’s mission, vision, principles, and values. Working closely with local staff and a support team from NPH International, he will oversee all administrative functions and a wide variety of childcare and family & community strengthening programs.

A native of Honduras, Rafael entered NPH when he was just 10 years old, arriving with his three brothers. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the Autonomous National University of Honduras (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras) and pursued advanced studies in child psychology at Adventist University Nicaragua (Universidad Adventista de Nicaragua).

Rafael had held several management roles with NPH. From 2014 to 2015 and from April 2018 until recently he served as NPH Peru House Director. From 2015 to 2018, Rafael led the Psychology Department at NPH Honduras, coinciding with the launch of the NPH OneFamily program.

He also served as vice president of the NPH Peru Board of Directors, worked in human resources with NPH Honduras, and supported NPHI Family Services in distinct roles. Outside of NPH, he worked as a clinical psychologist in an urban Honduran community assisting children and adolescents. He also facilitated social service interventions and primary and family health care services for children, youth, and adults in a rural community in Honduras.

Through many the years and titles, Rafael has maintained a singular focus with NPH. He says, “Serving the children is the most exciting part of my work. They inspire me.” And he is eager to tackle his new leadership role. “Growing up in NPH I had important role models over the years. They taught me what it means to serve as one’s vocation. I look forward to working with the NPH Peru team to provide the kind of support that is fundamental for our children to achieve their own goals.”

Please join the NPH family in congratulating Rafael. We wish him much success in his new role.
