NPHI named a United Nations Civil Society Organization

(Cuernavaca, Mexico, 13 March 2020)—NPHI has been designated by the United Nations (UN) Department of Global Communications as a Civil Society Organization for the 2020 term. This special recognition acknowledges NPHI’s ongoing commitment to advance a number of critical Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the UN.

As a prominent member of the Mexico nonprofit community and a leader in child care focused on helping vulnerable children escape poverty, NPHI is honored to be counted among the many global entities whose work impacts the lives of families and communities to bring about lasting change.

In 2020 NPHI has committed to focus on four SGDs that align most closely with its mission and areas of strategic focus: goal 1 no poverty, goal 3 good health and well-being, goal 5 gender equality, and goal 6 clean water and sanitation. Promoting health and providing basic and advanced medical services in a primary care health system covering eight countries in Latin America, plus a pediatric hospital in Haiti, comprise a core competency for NPHI.

More than 3,000 children, adolescents, and young adults who benefit from the care and support provided in NPHI’s residential care facilities, plus approximately 3,000 more who participate in family reintegration efforts and intensive community programs, are the focus of gender equality education across the organization.

"NPHI looks forward to furthering awareness of poverty, gender equality, and health issues through a comprehensive schedule of communications and outreach activities in 2020. We plan to cultivate youth advocates in each of our nine countries to promote positive change from within," says NPHI Executive Director Miguel Venegas.

Follow NPHI on Facebook and YouTube to see the work of its youth advocates and learn more about its Sustainable Development Goal activities in 2020.
