Rio Brown, A Volunteer's Gratitude

Thank you so much NPH!
July 3, 2012 - El Salvador

Rio Brown volunteers his Saturday off time at Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos.

Hi Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos family! My name is Rio Brown and I am a husband to an incredible wife, Theresa, and a father to two beautiful little girls, Deanna (5) and Julia (3). Besides these roles, I am also a son, a brother, a friend, and most importantly, a child of God striving to know, love and serve the Lord in all that I do. I have been in the US Navy for sixteen years. My family and I live in Virginia, and we are parishioners at St. Gregory's Catholic Church.

I view life as a gift, and strive to enjoy the present moment. I use each moment as an opportunity to grow closer to the Lord. I have been volunteering my time as often as I can, where ever I can, as a journey to pay it forward in becoming a man that is holy, simple and healthy. It is my hope that through my volunteering, the Lord can use me to draw others closer to Him.

In the weeks I’ve been here, I have done so many things and I have so many wonderful memories. The time has flown by. I will definitely never forget the time I have spent here. The people are the most genuine and accepting individuals with whom I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know and work with. I truly feel touched. The experience has given me new life skills. Adjusting to the language of a Spanish speaking country forced me to step outside of my comfort zone. It was a lesson more valuable than that of any classroom or textbook. Having had this experience, I am ready to continue my journey to pay it forward to the rest of the world and feel like I am prepared for whatever the Lord will send my way. When I get home, I will have lots of tales and stories to tell all my family and friends, and I will encourage them to volunteer as well.

Thank you so much NPH! I have had a both fun and rewarding time. Thank you for letting me join NPH as a volunteer. I cannot think of a better way to contribute to a great organization. I am thrilled to be a part of the NPH family! Thank you and God bless!
