In Guatemala, 49.8% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition. The number of boys and girls under five years of age who suffer from chronic malnutrition is alarming. One out of every two girls and boys under five years of age suffer from chronic malnutrition and are not growing well, suffer physical consequences of a poor diet, are exposed to a higher risk of infection, diminish their learning abilities and, in many cases, die.
NPH Guatemala is a family for more than 100 children and has programs for more than 300 children from the surrounding communities, to whom we offer education, care and protection services. At NPH, our priority is to guarantee a dignified life for each child and to provide them with what they need to develop fully. At NPH we know that a balanced diet is very important for the physical, mental and emotional well-being of children, that is why we offer a balanced diet that includes: fruits, vegetables, meats, grains and legumes. All of these vitamins and nutrients ensure that they can grow, play and learn and never again suffer from hunger and malnutrition as they suffered before joining our family. Our children receive three meals a day and a healthy snack during the school break.
Among our children, there are those who require a special diet such as; children under the age of five, those with chronic diseases and children with disabilities. Common foods are difficult for some of our children to digest, so they need an easy-to-digest diet that still provides the proper nutrients for good health. We have a pediatrician who is also a qualified nutritionist and works with the kitchen staff to carefully plan nutritionally complete meals. There is a very complete nutritional program in our home. Our 6 cooks work hard every day to ensure that children receive rich and nutritious meals, serving around 880 dishes daily to children, employees and volunteers.
This project is made up of the food needed so that the children and youth have a good diet for a year, it also includes the salary of the cooks. With daily use and the passing of the years, kitchen utensils and equipment deteriorate, which is why we need to renew the industrial blender, a refrigerator, a stove and the fat extractors to facilitate the preparation and cooking in a reasonable time.
Help us continue to feed children balanced and nutritious meals and ensure healthy growth. Make an impact. Make a donation.
